BCM International was founded in 1936 as the Bible Club Movement when some young
people in Philadelphia asked Bessie Traber, a missionary who had returned from the
Philippines, to run Bible clubs for them like those she had organised overseas. Over
the years the Bible Club Movement spread into Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
As children’s ministries expanded to Christian camps, church planting, leadership
training, publishing Bible teaching materials, and a variety of compassion and counselling
ministries, BCM modified its name to reflect its ever-
Today Bible Centred Ministries International has more than 700 missionaries representing five different continents serving in more than 50 countries around the world.
In 1947 BCM arrived in the UK with Bible clubs run by volunteers. Within a year
there were 48 Bible clubs around the country and there was a need for full-
BCM UK believes that:
- the Bible is God’s Holy Word, inspire and inerrant in its original writings
- God is a Trinity, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit
- the Lord Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, becoming man without ceasing to be God, sinless in all his ways; he died on the cross for sinners, was raised to life, ascended into heaven and is coming again in glory
- we are all sinful by nature, cut off from God and need to be brought into a right relationship with God
- salvation is the gift of God received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
- the command of Jesus Christ to preach the gospel to all nations is still the responsibility of each believer.
