Integrated Regeneration Programme
The programme comprises the following elements
Harbour Improvements Scheme
A £600,000 programme of harbour improvements included the deepening of the harbour basin and approach channel, to allow vessels to enter the harbour at most states of tide, to address odour problems at low water during the summer months. The scheme also included the provision of a storm gate for the improved safety of vessels during periods of strong winds and resultant high seas.
Harbour Pontoon
In association with the harbour improvements, the funding package included the provision of a £100,000 pontoon/berthing facility for visiting boats, the number of which is anticipated to increase significantly.
Environmental Improvements
The architect for a £100,000 Environmental Improvement scheme has been appointed and has currently completed the plans for a project tailored to the needs of the village. These plans are open to the public to view in the ACDA office.
Maritime Village
The Maritime Village, costing £800,000 includes budget accommodation (6 dormitories), 4 self catering cottages, 5 tourism related workspace units, a 40 seat restaurant, a small conference facility, reception area and a community office. The development is situated between the Annalong River, the Harbour and the Famous Cornmill in an area which is recognised by local residents as a 'neutral venue'. This development has been named "Cornmill Quay". Bookings are available through Mr. Mervyn Wishart (07990823317).
These Projects have been funded by IFI, SPARD, PESCA, SSPPR, MPO, N&MDC, DOE and ACDA
As well as securing funding for the £1.7 million integrated regeneration scheme, the association have a number of other proposals which they wish to progress, including a coastal path scheme, a river walk and adventure playground.
